In an article published by High Country News, the Maidu Summit Consortium are the first federally non-recognized tribe to regain ownership of their ancestral lands. Under the ownership of Pacific Gas and Electric the land was known as Humbug Valley. The Mountain Maidu call this pristine valley Tasmam Koyom, and will begin implementing traditional practices such as pruning and cultural burning.
