Join us for an autumn paddle at the Thermalito Diversion Pool, where we’ll discuss the fish passage around the Oroville Dam. Our pod will depart from the Brad Freeman Trail off of Cherokee Road on an out and back paddle. We will trace the northern shore of the pool until we reach its confluence with Potter’s Ravine, discuss the 2017 double spillway failure, and the reconstruction and relicensing of the Oroville Dam (FERC License #2100). This educational trip is perfect for salmon enthusiasts and anglers are encouraged to bring their tacklebox. There are plenty of opportunities to cast a line and the Thermalito Diversion Pool is notorious for lunkers.
Boats for this paddle are provided by the Forebay Aquatic Center. We will meet up at the Thermalito Diversion Pool boat launch off of Cherokee Road. This paddle trip is a total of 3.5 miles, and is estimated to take between 5 hours, depending on wind speeds.
Registration opens on August 1!
