Neal Road Preserve
At the request of California Open Lands (COL), Watershed Science performed a delineation of Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) on the Neal Road Preserve, an easement held on parcel 040-600-082. The Neal Road Waste Facility is owned by Butte County and managed by its Public Works department. According to the 2001 draft Environmental Impact Report for the Neal Road Landfill Expansion Project, the expansion and construction impacted 4.94 acres of jurisdictional wetlands and other waters. To mitigate for expanded waste management activities, the 3-acre Neal Road Preserve was created on-site and held in a Conservation Easement with California Open Lands, a non-profit land trust. The approximately 3-acre conservation easement that comprises Neal Road Preserve (the Preserve) is in Butte County and is surrounded by the region’s landfill, Neal Road Waste Facility.
